Medical Research Council of Canada Distinguished Professor, Department of Microbiology and Immunology, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, BC. Dr. Hancock is an Officer of the Order of Canada and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.

He was the funding Scientific Director of the Canadian Bacterial Diseases Network and became the head of the UBC Centre for Microbial Diseases and Immunity Research in 1997.

He has received many honours and awards including the MRC Distinguished Scientist Award, the125th Anniversary of Canada Silver Medal in 1993 and the Aventis Pharmaceuticals Award in 2003.

Dr. Hancock received his PhD from the University of Adelaide.
