Welichem Biotech Inc. ("Welichem", TSX-V: WBI) is engaged in the development and commercialization of synthesized therapeutics based on the metabolite structure of certain species of symbiotic organisms.
To achieve its goal of developing pharmaceutical drugs to treat unmet healthcare needs, Welichem performs in-house research and sponsors research that is contracted out to collaborators at major research laboratories. Our discovery and preclinical research activities comprise of purification and synthesis of the drug compounds, screening them as well as determining their mode of action and efficacy as pharmaceuticals. From an array of preclinical studies, specific compounds are selected for advancement through formal preclinical and clinical trials to prove and ensure their value as effective, non-harmful pharmaceuticals. Patents are filed to protect different aspects of the proprietary nature of these compounds. The result is an efficient drug development pipeline that yields effective and marketable pharmaceuticals that can be used to treat diseases all around the world.
Welichem's lead drug candidate, WBI-1001, is targeted as a topical, cream treatment for chronic dermatological autoimmune/inflammatory diseases, in particular, skin diseases such as psoriasis and eczema. This drug candidate is at an advanced, formal stage of preclinical testing prior to submission for regulatory approval for clinical trials.
The Company is also targeting a proprietary class of compounds that it has discovered to have anti-cancer properties. Welichem's WBI-2100 compound is structurally different from any other current chemotherapeutic agents for cancer treatment. Early signs as to the properties of this compound suggest that it has very good potential for chemotherapeutic treatment of select types of hard-to-treat tumors. WBI-2100 can be effectively used in a cocktail combination with other cancer therapeutics with excellent treatment results.
