Dr. Hugh Wynne-Edwards Resigns as a Director and Chairman of the Board

BURNABY, BC, April 8, 2008 /CNW/ - Welichem Biotech Inc. (the "Company") (TSX-V: WBI), announced that Dr. Hugh Wynne-Edwards has resigned as a director and Chairman of the Board from the Company due to health reasons. The Company has valued Dr. Wynne-Edwards’ contribution as a director and Chairman of the Board for many years.

“My resignation as a director and Chairman of Welichem is wholly the result of my recent medical diagnosis and in no way should suggest any loss of confidence in Welichem or its management. I am proud of the progress made by Welichem during my tenure as a director and Chairman, and fully expect that progress to continue. I look forward to following the Company’s success in the media”, said Dr. Wynne-Edwards.

Dr. John Webster, co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer of the Company, has agreed to take over as interim Chairman of the Board until a suitable candidate is appointed to fill this key position. “Dr. Hugh Wynne-Edwards’ sudden departure from Welichem after so many years of support is very unfortunate. He has seen the Company grow from small beginnings to the current exciting times when the drug candidates are beginning to prove themselves in the clinical setting. His wisdom on the Board over so many dedicated years will be missed”.

The Company commenced Phase II Clinical Trials of its anti-inflammatory drug, WBI-1001, for the treatment of eczema in late March and expects to complete them by the end of June this year.
